Required Texts:      Mathematical Ideas, 10th Edition, by Miller, Heeren, and Hornsby.  Published by Addison Wesley Longman, 2004.  ISBN:  0-321-17264-7 (expanded edition)

Course Description:     Selected mathematics topics are explored.  Topics include basic concepts of algebra, linear and quadratic equations, ratio, proportion, variation, polynomials, factoring, exponents, scientific notation, rectangular coordinate systems, lines, their slopes, and equations, systems of equations, linear programming, geometry, coning methods, probability, statistics, and consumer mathematics.
Prerequisites:         MATH 120 Concepts of Numbers.

Format & Technology    The course will consist of lectures, class discussions, demonstrations, and working out exercise in class by students.  Students are expected to complete their reading and homework assignments.

Goals &             The goals and objectives of the course are:

Requirements:         There will be daily quizzes, three tests, and a  final.
                                  The weights are:
                                    30% for the highest

                                    20% for the second test

10% for the lowest test

40% for the final
           100%.  In addition there will be bonus points for quizzes, class participation and solving problems on the blackboard.
 

Grading:                    "A"   over 88%
                                   "B"    75 to 87%
                                   "C"    62 to 74%
                                   "D"    50 to 61%
                                   "F"    below 49%

References:         Students should make use of magazines  found in the library.
