Required Texts:      Mathematical Ideas, 10th Edition, by Miller, Heeren, and Hornsby.  Published by Addison Wesley Longman (Now Prentice Hall), 2001.  ISBN: 0-321-04324-3 (alk paper) or 0-321-07610-9 (expanded edition)

Course Description:     Selected mathematics topics are explored.  Topics include basic concepts of algebra, linear and quadratic equations, ratio, proportion, variation, polynomials, factoring, exponents, scientific notation, rectangular coordinate systems, lines, their slopes, and equations, systems of equations, linear programming, geometry, coning methods, probability, statistics, and consumer mathematics.
Prerequisites:        None

Format & Technology    The course will consist of lectures, class discussions, demonstrations, and working out exercise in class by students.  Students are expected to complete their reading and homework assignments.

Requirements:         There will be daily quizzes, a mid-term, and a  final.
                                  The weights are:
                                    60% for higher of Midterm and final
                                    40% for lower of Midterm and Final
                                  100%.  In addition there will be bonus points for quizzes, class participation and solving problems on the blackboard.
 

Grading:                    "A"   over 88%
                                   "B"    75 to 87%
                                   "C"    62 to 74%
                                   "D"    50 to 61%
                                   "F"    below 49%

References:         Students should make use of magazines  found in the library.
