Course Objectives:        To provide the student with the mathematical skills and knowledge to pursue more advanced courses in math and science, such as Calculus.

Classroom Procedures:        There will be lectures and discussions.  Some classes will be devoted to problem solving. The graphing calculator will be used extensively.  Students will have opportunities to do board work.

Materials:       Each student must purchase a calculator.  The TI-83 graphing calculator is preferred.  However any scientific calculator is adequate.

Grading:        There will be four exams including the final.  Each exam will count for 22.5 percentage points.  The homework (HW) will constiute the other ten- (10) points.  The final exam will cover the last ½ of the course material.  Make-ups will be given only incases of valid absences-valid means a written document such as a doctor's statement is submitted.  When requesting a make-up a Request for Makeup form must be submitted with documentation.

Grading Scale:       100-90 A     89-80 B     79-70 C     69-60 D        Below 60 F

Homework:       Homework (HW) will count as 10% of the final grade.  Keep the HW in a neat folder.  No Notes should be in the HW folder.

Incomplete Grade:      A grade incomplete (I) maybe assigned if a student has a valid reason for missing some course requirement, for example, a test.  An I cannot be assigned if major parts of the course work are not done.  In such a case the student should with draw form the course.  To request an I the student must fill out a Request For Incomplete Form and submit with documentation. Please note any request for an I must be submitted before the end of the semester.

Attendance:       Three classes may be missed without an excuse.  Each unexcused absence there after will subtract one (1) point from the final average.  An excuse requires documentation such as a doctor's statment.  Arriving late or leaving early will result in a L being recorded.  Three L's will count as one absence.  Attendance is important.
